Former law advisor Asif Nazrul has announced that he is leaving his official residence on Hare Road, sharing an emotional message on social media about his attachment to the place.

In a Facebook post on Thursday, he wrote, “Goodbye Hare Road!” while describing the mixed feelings surrounding his departure.

Nazrul said his family initially struggled to adjust after moving into the large government residence, particularly his children, who missed their friends on Fuller Road.

“We felt sad when we first moved in. The house and the premises were so large that it did not feel intimate,” he wrote.

However, as the time came to leave, he said he had developed a deep emotional bond with the residence.

“I have a weakness for attachment. Now I feel a strong pull for this house,” he said, mentioning the greenery, sunlight and shade, kites in the sky and the vast open space as the aspects he would miss most.

He also shared a one-minute eight-second video showing the surroundings of the residence.

During the interim government period, Nazrul served as law advisor and also held the portfolios of expatriates’ welfare and later sports.

He took charge of the sports ministry after the resignation of student advisor Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuyain became effective on the day the election schedule was announced.

He faced criticism over several decisions during the interim administration, including controversy surrounding fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman’s exclusion from the IPL and the subsequent decision that Bangladesh would not tour India for the T20 World Cup.

Nazrul also drew scrutiny over different policy decisions during the roughly one-and-a-half-year tenure of the interim government formed after the 2024 movement that removed the Awami League from power.
