Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed has announced that a nationwide special drive will soon be launched against human trafficking and drug smuggling.
Speaking as the chief guest at a Farmer Card distribution ceremony at Teknaf Ejahar Government High School, the minister described drug addiction as a "formidable social malady" misleading the country's youth.
The minister identified Teknaf, Ukhiya, and Cox’s Bazar as the most vulnerable zones for human trafficking.
"Law enforcing agencies have already been briefed to intensify surveillance in these high-risk areas," he said.
"We are identifying the specific points used by criminals to conduct organised raids," the minister said.
Salahuddin also expressed deep concern over the "alarming rise" of online gambling.
He revealed that the government has commissioned research to understand the spread of these illegal activities.
The goal is to develop "realistic and sustainable solutions" to shut down digital gambling platforms effectively.
During the event, which inaugurated the distribution of Farmer Cards via video conference, the minister highlighted the swiftness with which the government is delivering on its promises.
