The Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism has issued an urgent alert to ensure safe sea tourism.
In its warning on Sunday, the ministry said red-flagged zones on beaches are dangerous and entering the water in those areas is strictly prohibited.
It said the district administration, tourist police, beach workers and lifeguards are always available to assist tourists.
Visitors were instructed not to swim outside the safe marked zones or in places without lifeguard services.
The alert noted that beyond these designated areas, assistance is not available in case of drowning.
Tourists have been advised to check tide schedules and sea danger signals before entering the water, to avoid swimming during adverse weather, and to refrain from entering the sea recklessly during low tide.
Those who cannot swim have been strictly warned against entering the sea. All hotels, motels, guesthouses and resorts have been directed to provide tourists with life jackets or ensure access to them.
The ministry specifically instructed against using tubes as flotation devices, instead requiring the use of life jackets, and urged parents to keep children under constant supervision.
Families bringing minors to the beach were advised to keep a photograph of the child on their mobile phones.
The alert also warned of the dangers posed by strong currents, whirlpools, reverse flows and downward streams. It added that shifting sands on the shore can create pits, and advised avoiding the sea during such conditions.
The ministry also cautioned against rescue attempts by untrained individuals, as this could endanger the lives of both the rescuer and the victim.
