A 10-member African delegation will visit Bangladesh from Sept 17 to Sept 26 to study Zakat and Islamic social finance management under an Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) capacity-building project, according to the Center for Zakat Management (CZM).
The delegation, representing Nigeria, Senegal, Cameroon and Gambia, will gain insights into the work of CZM and other organisations engaged in social finance, a media statement read on Tuesday.
The statement said the team will observe a wide range of its initiatives, including the CZM Kidney Dialysis Centre, Granada Islamic Academy, Granada Academy, RSF Granada Academy, and its Livelihood Project.
They will also visit leading national institutions such as Islami Bank Bangladesh PLC, BRAC Centre and the Grameen Yunus Centre, it said.
For nearly 17 years, CZM has worked to institutionalise the collection, management and effective use of Zakat funds for poverty reduction and community development.
The organisation said it has positively impacted the lives of more than 1.7 million underprivileged people through Zakat-based development programmes.
Md Omar Faruque, deputy manager at CZM, said the visit would help strengthen international cooperation on Islamic social finance.
