For the third time in two weeks, an earthquake has struck Bangladesh, this time with its epicentre in Jashore, measuring 3.5 on the Richter scale
The tremors were felt at 2:27pm on Saturday.
According to Rubayet Kabir, acting head of the Earthquake Monitoring and Research Centre at the Bangladesh Meteorological Department, the earthquake originated at Manirampur of Jashore, approximately 157km southwest of Dhaka.
The last earthquake was recorded on Sept 21, when a magnitude 4 tremor was felt in the Sylhet region, with its epicentre in Sreemangal, Sunamganj.
A week earlier, on Sept 14, a magnitude 5.8 quake in Assam, India, sent seismic waves to different parts of Bangladesh, including the capital.
Asked about the risk of a larger earthquake, Rubayet said Bangladesh is located in a seismically active zone, making tremors of this magnitude common, and there is no need for concern at this time.
