The Supreme Court has barred the entry of anyone other than lawyers, including litigants or any “unexpected individuals”, into the courtrooms of both its divisions.
The restriction was announced on Sunday, citing security concerns.
A notice from the apex court emphasises that, as the highest judicial forum and a vital national institution, the Supreme Court requires stringent protection.
It highlights the need to safeguard the chief justice, judges of both divisions, lawyers, and court officials.
“Recently, some litigants, case-related individuals, and unexpected persons have been entering courtrooms, disrupting security, the peaceful environment, and judicial proceedings,” it read.
It warned that such intrusions compromise the safety of judges, lawyers, and staff.
The court administration also prohibited all gatherings, processions, and the possession of any legal or illegal weapons, explosives, or drugs within the Supreme Court premises.
The order will take effect from Dec 15 and remain in force until Dec 31.
