The Anti-Corruption Commission, or ACC, has initiated a probe into allegations of illegal asset accumulation against four ex-lawmakers including former fisheries and livestock minister Abdur Rahman and ex-whip Iqbalur Rahim.
The two others are Solaiman Haque Joarder of Chuadanga-1 and Saifuzzaman Shikhor of Magura-1.
The commission decided to investigate complaints involving corruption, abuse of power, and illicit accumulation of wealth, both at home and abroad, ACC spokesperson Akhtarul Islam told bdnews24.com on Wednesday.
ACC's initial findings point to significant illegal assets linked to these former lawmakers.
Rahman allegedly misused his position to construct a building in Faridpur, buy lands in multiple locations including Purbachal, and acquire foreign properties in the USA, Australia, Switzerland, Sweden, and Canada.
Rahim is accused of acquiring properties in Dhaka’s Uttara and large areas of land in several mouzas of Dinajpur, while Saifuzzaman is charged with setting up an auto-bricks field and a fish farm on large plots in Magura.
Solaiman is under scrutiny for owning substantial properties, including a luxury residence in Chuadanga Sadar, numerous buses, trucks, and other assets.
The ACC said it found these allegations credible, warranting further investigation.
