The Saudi Ministry of Hajj and Umrah has set Monday afternoon as the deadline for this year’s Hajj visa applications, but more than 10,000 Bangladeshi pilgrims are still waiting to apply.
The Nusuk Masar Hajj registration portal will close at 12pm on Monday.
In a letter to the lead Hajj agencies on Sunday, the Ministry of Religious Affairs warned that no further registrations would be possible once the portal closes.
Citing a text message sent by the Saudi Ministry of Hajj and Umrah, the religious affairs ministry said in the letter that pilgrims who have not yet submitted their visa applications with information on passport, biometric, hotel or home, and flight plan will have to submit their visa applications on the Nusuk Masar platform by 12pm on May 5.
“The platform will then be closed. After the closure, visa applications can not be submitted in any way. As a result, pilgrims whose visa applications are not submitted within the specified period will not be able to go for Hajj this year.”
The ministry warned top agencies linked to Hajj visa processing that in case a trip-seeker misses the window due to an agency’s negligence, the agency responsible would be held accountable under the Hajj and Umrah Management Act 2021 and the Hajj and Umrah Rules 2022.
According to the Hajj portal of the Ministry of Religious Affairs, so far 75,580 visas have been issued, including all those who seek Hajj routes under the management of the government.
Visas have been issued for around 86 percent of those who chose to travel through private agencies. In total, 89 percent of the Hajj pilgrims have received visas.
The Hajj will be held on Jun 5, subject to the sighting of the moon. The Hajj flights started last May 29 and will continue carrying passengers to Jeddah until May 31.
A total of 87,100 pilgrims from Bangladesh are set to travel to Saudi Arabia for Hajj this year. The government will oversee the travels of 5,200 pilgrims while the trips of the remaining 81,900 will be managed by private Hajj journey operators.
According to the Hajj portal of the Ministry of Religious Affairs, a total of 22,203 people have already arrived in Saudi Arabia on 54 flights.
Of them, 4,564, including organising members, have travelled to perform Hajj under government management and 17,639 under private management.
Two Bangladeshis have died on Hajj trip this year thus far. On Apr 29, Md Khalilur Rahman, 70, of Rajbari died in Saudi Arabia, before 57-year-old Md Fariduzzaman of Bajitpur, Kishoreganj died on Friday.
