A court has remanded former ministers Hasanul Haq Inu and Rashed Khan Menon for three days, allowing police to question them regarding the murder case of Anwar Hossain Patwary, who was shot dead in Mirpur during the Anti-discrimination Student Movement.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate GM Farhan Ishtiaque issued the order on Monday, Public Prosecutor Omar Faruq Faruqi of the Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge's Court confirmed.
Police brought the suspects to the court from jail for the hearing. Investigation officer of the case CID Inspector Nasiruddin pleaded to remand them for five days.
PP Faruqi, representing the state, moved the remand petition while the defence counsels opposed him and sought bail for the suspects.
The court issued the three-day remand order after hearing from both sides.
According to the case documents, Anwar Hossain Patwary was shot dead at the Gol Chattar area (roundabout) in Mirpur on Aug 5, the day the Awami League government was toppled by the Anti-discrimination Student Movement protests. His father Al Amin Patwary filed a murder case with the Mirpur Model Police Station over his death.
