Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has called for the development of a “disciplined, modern and corruption-free” armed forces, urging military personnel to strictly adhere to constitutional duties while strengthening professionalism, coordination and strategic capability.
Speaking at a Darbar session at Dhaka Cantonment on Sunday, the premier instructed members of the armed forces to refrain from negligence of duty and abuse of authority.
It was his first address at such a military gathering since assuming office.
He emphasised that dedication to the constitution, oath, discipline and command structure must remain absolute.
“There is no alternative to continuously improving professional skills,” he said, adding that modern warfare demands advanced technology, strategic thinking and strong coordination.
Tarique also underscored the importance of building stronger ties between the armed forces and the public, describing it as a source of strength and inspiration for national defence.
He also stressed the safeguarding of public resources and ensuring their proper use as moral and professional obligation.
The premier highlighted the armed forces’ role in international engagements, particularly United Nations peacekeeping missions, urging personnel to represent Bangladesh with dignity and responsibility.
“You are not just soldiers there; you are representatives of Bangladesh,” he said, calling for national interest and honour to be placed above all else on the global stage.
He reiterated his government’s commitment to building a strong and respected Bangladesh that “does not bow to any state” and maintains its sovereignty and dignity in international relations.
According to him, global partnerships should be based on mutual respect, shared interests and equality.
He added that the armed forces would play a “massive role” in shaping and sustaining Bangladesh’s position in the international arena.
