The National Consensus Commission has consulted legal experts, including the law advisor and attorney general, on how to implement the July National Charter.
The meeting, held on Sunday at the Foreign Service Academy, was attended by Law Advisor Asif Nazrul, Attorney General Md Asaduzzaman, retired justices MA Matin and Moinul Islam Chowdhury, and senior lawyers at the Supreme Court, Sharif Bhuiyan and Imran Siddiq.
Commission Vice-Chairman Ali Riaz and other members also took part, alongside the Chief Advissr’s Special Assistant Monir Haider.
So far, 26 political parties have submitted opinions on the draft charter. Four parties — Ganadhikar Parishad, Rashtriya Sangskar Andolon, Jamiat-e-Ulama-e-Islam, and Islami Oikya Jote — are yet to respond.
The Commission earlier circulated an integrated draft to 30 parties, proposing that the charter’s provisions take precedence over existing laws and that immediate reforms be enacted before the next general election.
Officials said Sunday’s talks reviewed the legal framework to ensure the charter cannot be challenged in court.
