Bhutan’s Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay has paid tribute to the fallen heroes of the 1971 Liberation War during his visit to Bangladesh.
He laid a wreath at the base of the National Martyrs' Memorial in Dhaka’s Savar shortly after arriving in the country on Saturday, the Chief Advisor's Office (CAO) said.
During this time, Tobgay planted a sapling in the memorial complex and signed the visitors' book.
He landed at Dhaka’s Shahjalal International Airport at 8:15am on Saturday for a three-day visit. Chief Advisor Muhammad Yunus gave him a warm welcome at the airport. After a brief meeting between the two leaders there, a contingent of the Armed Forces presented him with a guard of honour.
After the formalities at the airport, the Bhutanese prime minister left to pay tribute to the fallen Liberation War heroes at the memorial.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said three memoranda of understanding (MoUs) may be signed during the visit, including agreements on internet bandwidth exchange, recruitment of Bhutanese specialist doctors and health workers, and cooperation in agriculture.
Tobgay is scheduled to hold separate meetings with Foreign Advisor Touhid Hossain and Commerce Advisor Sheikh Bashir Uddin before a one-on-one meeting with Yunus at his Tejgaon office on Saturday afternoon.
A state banquet will be held in honour of the Bhutanese delegation on Saturday evening.
