The Bangladesh government has expressed deep concern after two Bangladeshis were killed and several others injured in an aerial attack in Saudi Arabia’s Al-Kharj Governorate.
In a statement issued on Monday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs identified the victims as Bacchu Miah of Kishoreganj’s Katiadi, and Mosharraf Hossain of Tangail’s Sakhipur.
The incident occurred on Sunday when a projectile struck a residential building housing employees of a maintenance and cleaning company in Al-Kharj.
Saudi Civil Defence initially reported that the strike killed one Bangladeshi and one Indian national.
At least 12 people were injured in the attack, according to Saudi authorities.
The foreign ministry later confirmed that another Bangladeshi had died from the incident.
“The injured are receiving treatment at local hospitals. Officials of the Bangladesh Embassy in Riyadh have visited the injured and are in close contact with the Saudi authorities regarding the return of the victims’ mortal remains,” the statement said.
The government strongly condemned attacks resulting in the loss of innocent lives.
“Bangladesh strongly condemns all such attacks that result in the loss of innocent lives and calls upon all parties concerned to exercise maximum restraint,” the statement said.
It also urged the international community to take urgent and effective measures to de-escalate tensions and prevent further casualties.
Earlier, after the outbreak of the Iran war, Bangladeshi expatriates had also been injured in missile and drone attacks in the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain, while reports of injuries among Bangladeshis had also emerged from Kuwait and several other countries.
The government said it was closely monitoring the evolving situation and giving the highest priority to the safety and welfare of Bangladeshi nationals in the Middle East.
