The incident occurred in the Sadar Upazila’s Khurushkul area early on Tuesday morning, said RAB-7 Cox’s Bazar Camp Company Captain Maj Md Ruhul Amin.

The dead has been identified as 22-year-old Mohammad Selim.

A RAB team was dispatched to the area after receiving information that Selim and his associates were located there, the RAB official said.

“They fired upon the team and RAB fired 15 rounds of bullets in self-defence. Selim was found shot after the others fled. He was taken to Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.”

A pistol and a one-shooter gun were recovered from the scene, he said.

A three-year-old child was raped in Fisherypara on Aug 23. The child’s father filed a case against Selim over the incident.
