Ganatantrik Jukto Front seeks white paper on Yunus-led interim govt’s 17-month rule

The alliance also demands a probe into allegations of corruption against former advisors

The Ganatantrik Jukto Front has demanded the publication of a white paper on the tenure of the recently dissolved interim government led by Nobel Laureate Muhammad Yunus.

In a media statement issued on Friday afternoon, the leaders of the political alliance also called for a thorough investigation into corruption allegations that have surfaced against various advisors.

The organisation emphasised that a white paper is essential for a "democratic transition" and insisted that any advisor found guilty of corruption must be brought to justice.

Signed by Razequzzaman Ratan, assistant general secretary of the Socialist Party of Bangladesh, the statement criticised the slow pace of legal proceedings against the killings during the mass uprising.

It noted that apart from a verdict in a single case against Sheikh Hasina, there has been "no significant visible progress" in ensuring accountability for the fatalities.

The alliance also raised concerns over legal harassment, alleging that people were framed in cases to extort large sums of money from them.

The Jukto Front has also argued that essential reforms have been jeopardised due to the interim administration's approach.

Instead of reaching decisions through consensus among all political parties, the government attempted to "impose its own will", which the alliance claims has caused potential reforms to stall.
