Among the 22 accused, former MP from Raozan ABM Fazle Karim Chowdhury, had already been arrested in another case. On Feb 5, he was shown arrested in the crimes against humanity case and was ordered to be produced before the tribunal on Feb 16.
On Jul 16, 2024, college student and Chhatra Dal leader Wasim Akram was killed during the quota reform movement in Chattogram. About a month later, on Aug 18 of the same year, his mother, Josna Begum, filed a murder case at Panchlaish Police Station in Chattogram. That case named around 250 accused, including former prime minister Sheikh Hasina and former road transport minister Obaidul Quader.
Later, in connection with the deaths of 11 people including Wasim during the July Uprising in Chattogram, a case alleging crimes against humanity was filed at the tribunal. Following the investigation of that case, the prosecution has now submitted formal charges against these 22 individuals over the killing of six people, including Wasim.
