The road outside the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery is almost empty. Some CNG-powered autorickshaws and rickshaws are operating, while journalists are standing on the pavement, waiting for updates.
Police and Army personnel are lined up at the entrance.
No one is being allowed to enter except the patients’ relatives and hospital staff.
In front of the hospital, both organisations and individuals have gathered to serve victims. Some are assisting patients’ relatives by arranging blood donors, while others are providing drinking water and saline as needed.

Such was the scene outside the burn institute on Wednesday.
A large number of students injured in the jet crash at Milestone School and College in Dhaka’s Diabari are being treated at the institute.
A help desk had been set up near the entrance gate and several Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal activists were seated under the scorching sun, assisting the relatives of patients.
Although a help desk banner of Bangladesh Chhatra Odhikar Parishad was visible, no one was present there. However, four mobile phone numbers were listed on the banner.
Shamim Akter Shuvo, joint general secretary of Chhatra Dal’s Dhaka University unit, was at the group’s help desk.
He told bdnews24.com, “Around 20 patients’ relatives have come to us for assistance since the morning. We are helping with water, saline, and blood. We also have a free bike service for the patients’ relatives.”

When asked what kind of assistance the relatives are requesting, he said: “Most of them are coming for blood, especially for negative blood groups. We have enough donors and they are donating blood.”
Meanwhile, from 7am, a volunteer named Hasan Mahmud had been waiting outside the burn institute. He had come from Keraniganj.
Hasan said, “I am not a professional bike rider. I came with my personal vehicle to help the patients’ relatives in any way I can.
“I saw in the media that some people are charging Tk 500 for a Tk 50 ride and Tk 600 for two litres of water. This has deeply pained me.”
At least 29 people have died in the jet crash so far, and 69 are receiving treatment in hospitals.

Per the updated information on the chief advisor’s Facebook page until 11am Wednesday, 44 patients are currently admitted to the burn institute, and 11 have died there. At Dhaka’s Combined Military Hospital (CMH), 21 are admitted, and 15 have died.
In addition, one person each has died at Dhaka Medical College, Lubna General Hospital, and United Hospital.
Currently, one patient each is receiving treatment at Kuwait Bangladesh Friendship Govt Hospital, Shaheed Monsur Ali Medical College Hospital, and Uttara Adhunik Medical College Hospital.
