A special flight of Biman Bangladesh Airlines, operated entirely by women, has taken off from Dhaka to Bangkok in celebration of International Women's Day.

The BG-388 flight departed from Shahjalal International Airport at 11:20am on Saturday with 120 passengers on board, the state-run airline said in a statement.

According to flight monitoring website Flightradar24, the service is being operated with a Boeing 737 aircraft and is scheduled to land at Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport at 3pm.

Biman said the flight is unique as all its operational crew members are women.

The cockpit crew consists of Captain Anita Rahman and First Officer Tasnuva Wadud Nilormy, while five female cabin crew members are also on board.

Women staff also managed all pre-flight procedures, including passenger check-in, passport control, boarding, baggage handling, trim sheet loading, and flight operations.

The national flag carrier said the initiative aims to promote gender equality, women’s empowerment, and the elimination of all forms of discrimination and violence against women in observance of International Women's Day 2025.

Last year, Biman operated an "all-women flight" on the Dhaka-Dammam route in Saudi Arabia to mark the occasion.
