Marking the International Day of Peace, Bangladeshi photojournalist Muhammad Mostafigur Rahman, popularly known as Mustafiz Mamun, has opened his third solo exhibition in New York.
Mostafigur, head of news photography at bdnews24.com, is presenting a collection of 40 images capturing peace in Bangladesh’s culture, lifestyle, and natural landscapes, a media statement read on Monday.
The exhibition is being hosted at the Save the People Auditorium in the Peace Center on Hillside Avenue, Jamaica.
Organised by the non-profit Save the People in collaboration with the United Nations Association of USA–Queens Chapter, the Peace Center of USA and the Interfaith Center of USA, the week-long event runs daily from 5pm to 9pm until Saturday, Sept 27.
The show was inaugurated on Saturday, Sept 20, with a cake-cutting ceremony at 6pm. Among those present were Aftab Uddin Mannan, general secretary of the Jamaica Muslim Centre; Fakhrul Islam Delwar, NYC Community Board member and president of the Bangladesh Jamaica Friend Society; Dr Muhammad Shahidullah, CEO of Save the People; New York-based photojournalists Jay Mandal, Sanaul Haque, and Khorshed Alam; as well as several visiting photojournalists from Dhaka and members of the Bangladeshi diaspora in the United States. Guests praised the initiative for projecting Bangladesh’s peaceful image abroad.
Mostafigur said, “Through these images, I have tried to portray the atmosphere of peace hidden within the lives, culture, and natural landscapes of Bangladesh. Peace is not just the absence of conflict; it is the presence of justice, dignity, and human compassion. On this International Day of Peace, may my photographs serve as a reminder of that message.”
A closing ceremony will be held on Friday, Sept 26, at 6pm, with local cultural figures and photography enthusiasts expected to attend. Organisers hope the exhibition will carry Bangladesh’s message of peace to both diaspora communities and international visitors.
