Several TV stations and web portals ran reports on Khaleda holding a meeting at her Gulshan office on Thursday night.
They claimed a group of public administration officials were also present.
Acting Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir promptly issued a media release claiming the reports were "false and baseless".
"The reports [on the meeting] are false, fabricated and motivated. They aim at misleading the people," he said.
The statement claimed the reports were "politically motivated".
Fakhrul condemned running such reports and urged the people not to be misled.
Khaleda's Gulshan office staffers said no meeting was scheduled there for Thursday night.
However, several retired government officials, including Khaleda's advisors, were seen at the office at night.
The BNP chief was at her Gulshan office for three hours from 9pm.
