The students organised a human-chain protest in front of the school on Sunday to mount pressure on the authorities.
A youth stabbed 14-year-old Risha when she was crossing the street on a footbridge after her classes last Wednesday.
The eighth grader died at Dhaka Medical College Hospital on Sunday morning. Her mother Tania Begum filed a case at Ramna Police Station.
Risha's classmate 'Simi' said they took Bangla model test on that day.
Most of the students of the class left the school after the exam ended at 10:30am while Risha was waiting for a school van and started to cross the footbridge when it arrived.
"The incident would not have happened had she left the school with us," said a tearful Simi.
A guardian asked a security guard what they were doing at the time.
"But the youth with the knife fled," he added.
Acting Principal Abul Hossain said the school compound was safe as security personnel were guarding it but Risha was stabbed outside.
He also demanded the arrest of the murderer.
Risha's classmates burst into tears when her body was brought to the school in the afternoon. It was taken to her house in Bangshal later.
Her maternal uncle 'Munna' said she would be buried in Azimpur Graveyard.
Risha was the fourth among six siblings. Her father Rmzan Hossain is a cable operator.
Moshiur Rahman, OC of Ramna Police Station, said her mother Taniya in the case accused 'Obaid', a worker of a tailoring shop at Eastern Mollika Shopping Complex at Elephant Road.
She alleged in the case that Obaid had harassed Risha on phone by taking the number from the shop's register. Risha had given the number two months ago when she went to order a dress.
The OC said Obaid left the job two months ago.
Police quizzed four workers of the shop, 'Boishakhi Tailors'.
"We are trying to arrest him. We heard that he hails from either Thakurgaon or Dinajpur, but we are not certain," the OC said.
