Banani police OC Bhuiyan Mahbub Hossain on Sunday said North South University student Zafar Sadique, 23, is the son of CID's ADIG Mozammel Hossain and lives in Banani DOHS.
Buying house worker Mrittunjoy Acharya Mithu, 48, died after being run over by a car on Thursday at Banani's Chairmanbarhi.
Acharya fell under the wheels of the car when he was trying to cross the road.
The car plunged into the road's divider after running over Acharya.
The matter became public after a picture of the white car taken after the accident with a 'police' sticker went viral on Facebook.
"Zafar Sadique was arrested a day after the incident," OC Hossain said, adding: "He stands accused in a regular case."
ADIG Hossain declined comment.
However, Sadique has not been reportedly accused of driving a vehicle sporting a 'police' sign or driving without licence.
