Director, clinical operations, Dr Dabir Uddin Ahmed told bdnews24.com that they found marks of wounds that were like the “entry points” of something, which “could be rubber bullet, sprayed bullets or pellets”.
“But, technically, we cannot say for sure that he was bullet-hit,” he said.
“He is under close observation at the general high dependency unit. He is conscious, but panicked, and tensed,” Dr Ahmed told bdnews24.com.
Khaleda's press wing official Shamsuddin Didar had earlier said miscreants had shot and wounded the former foreign secretary, and set his car ablaze at Gulshan near The Westin hotel at around 8:40pm in Dhaka.
He was leaving Gulshan after meeting the BNP Chief on Tuesday during the BNP’s indefinite transport blockade.
Police blamed it on the 'miscreants', while Khaleda alleged that the attack came due to “provocation” from the government’s highest level.
Dr Ahmed said the entry points they identified were all on the left side –back, iliac region above the thigh and below the knee.
“He cannot move his left ankle joint, the sciatic nerve may have been hit.”
“But we will ascertain the reason in the morning after an MRI”.
He said Rahman would not be allowed to swallow anything by mouth for the night for “some morning tests”.
Orthopaedic surgeons are leading his medical team in the hospital, he said.
