The petition also sought the apex court’s rule for arrest of accused police officer Masud Shikder by treating Rabbi’s written complaint as case statement and also award the victim Tk 30 million in compensation.
Barrister HM Sanjid Siddiqui on Sunday submitted the petition with the Supreme Court’s concerned wing on behalf of the three petitioners, lawyers AKM Ehsanur Rahman and SM Zulfiqar Ali and Zahid Hasan, news broadcaster of Radio Dhoni.
Sub-Inspector Masud Shikdar of Mohammadpur Police Station kept Rabbi, an assistant director of the central bank, confined in a police vehicle in a bid to extort money from him on the night of Jan 9.
The following day, Rabbi submitted a written complaint to the deputy commissioner (Tejgaon) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police.
Directives have been sought for considering the complaint as the case statement and arresting SI Shikdar, Barrister Siddiqui told bdnews24.com.
Besides, a judicial probe led by a district judge and Tk 30 million compensation have been sought in the writ petition, he said.
“It has been also prayed that a rule be issued as to why the torture and harassment of Rabbi will not be declared unconstitutional and illegal.”
The home and the law secretaries, the inspector general of police, the Tejgaon DC, the officer-in-charge of Mohammadpur police and SI Masud Shikdar have been made defendants in the writ to be placed in court on Monday, Siddiqui said.
SI Masud Shikdar has been suspended and Rabbi is still under treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
