The bench of Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Amir Hossain on Thursday kept the case on ‘Curia Advisari Vult’, a Latin legal term meaning verdict could be delivered any day.
In November 2013, a Dhaka court acquitted Tarique, the elder son of BNP chief Khaleda Zia, over charges brought against him for allegedly siphoning off Tk 204.1 million to Singapore between 2003 and 2007.
The judge jailed Tarique’s friend and business partner Mamun for seven years in the case over siphoning off Tk 200 million abroad after getting the money as bribe.
Mamun was also fined Tk 400 million.
BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s son Tarique has been absent since the beginning of the case, having been in London for past eight years. He can seek bail after surrender in the case.
The ACC appealed against Tarique’s acquittal on Dec 5 the same year.
Upon hearing the ACC petition, the High Court ordered Tarique to surrender on Jan 19, 2014.
The Bangladesh High Commission in London sent the summons to Tarique’s address following a court order but Tarique had not responded.
