Police produced Tahmid, a businessman's son who has been studying in Canada, in court on Saturday and sought orders to send him to jail.
The former North South University teacher Hasanat Rezaul Karim, arrested along with Tahimd, has already been shown arrested in the case over the deadly siege.
Tahmid and Hasanat were among 13 hostages freed from Holey Artisan Bakery and O' Kitchen early on July 2.
At least 20 hostages, including 17 foreign nationals, and two policemen were killed before the rescue raid.
All the freed hostages were taken to the Detective Branch office and released after questioning, police said. But Tahmid and Hasanat did not return home. Their families alleged police were holding them in custody.
The duo were arrested from different places on Aug 3 as suspects under Section 54 of the Code Of Criminal Procedure.
Hasanat was shown arrested in the Gulshan attack case and is now being interrogated in police custody.
No petition to grill him again was filed either, police counterterrorism unit Inspector Humayun Kabir told bdnews24.com.
Referring to the report onTahmid's remand, Kabir said police were checking whether he was involved in the attack.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Delwar Hossain heard a petition for Tahmid's bail but rejected it and ordered that he be sent to jail.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Saiful Islam, who is investigating the Gulshan cafe terror attack case, said Tahmid was grilled for 14 days though the police had been granted 15 days.
He declined to say on whether Tahmid was involved in the attack, while noting that investigations were under way.
Tahmid returned to Bangladesh from Canada a day before the siege. He went to the cafe to have Iftar with his friends on July 1, his family has said.
Some of the photos of the attack disseminated on social media show Tahmid carrying a gun in company with Hasanat and Rohan Ibn Imtiaz, one of the attackers killed in the rescue raid.
