The strike has caused immense suffering to those seeking medical help.
Public and private hospitals, clinics have downed their shutters.
A Rajshahi court on Thursday sent Bangladesh Medical Association (BMA)’s local unit Joint General Secretary Shamil Uddin Ahmed Shimul to jail in a case over the death of a patient, allegedly due to wrong treatment at local Dolphin Clinic.
Seven organisations of doctors, nurses and clinic owners called for the strike on Thursday night.
Shimul is also the organising secretary of Rajshahi unit of pro-Awami League Swadhinata Chiktsak Parishad (Swachip).
Local BMA and Swachip chief SR Tarafder said: “As per an unanimous decision by seven organisations, medical services won’t be provided until Shimul is released.
“However, only a team of two doctors will work at Rajshahi Medical College and Hospital’s emergency unit.”
