Department of Paediatric Surgery head Ashraful Haq Kazal said Prof Abid Hossain Molla, chief of the paediatric department, will head the nine-member board.
Dr Kazal said the child was born a few days before it was due.
“Premature babies have complications; this baby, moreover, was shot,” he said. “But its condition is now stable.”
Supporters of Magura Juba League activist Kamrul Bhuiyan clashed with former Juba League supporters Mohammad Ali and ‘Ajibor’ on July 23.
Najma Begum, 30, the pregnant wife of Kamrul’s brother, and their neighbour Miraz Hossain were hit by stray bullets, while Kamrul’s uncle Abdul Momin was killed.
The Juba League is the youth front of the ruling Awami League.
Doctors performed surgeries on Najma to save her child that night. The infant was transferred to the DMCH two days later.
Medical board member Kajal said they were trying their best to save the child.
A baby in the womb attains full growth after 40 weeks but this baby was born in its 34th week, and was rather weak, according to the doctor.
“A bullet passed through the right side of the child’s body but it did not damage any organ,” he said.
“But it has marks of five wounds on its right eye, back, and cheek,” he said. “The child was injured when the bullet spun after entering the mother’s womb.”
