Former social welfare minister Enamul Hoque Mostofa Shaheed has died at a Dhaka hospital.

He was 78.
 
The six-time Awami League MP from Habiganj was put on life support on being admitted to Square Hospital in Dhaka on Tuesday night.
 
Doctors declared him dead on Thursday morning, Shaheed’s son Nizamul Hoque Rana told bdnews24.com.
 
Rana said his father was suffering from kidney diseases and diabetes.
 
Social welfare ministry spokesperson Maidul Islam Prodhan said Shaheed's body will be kept at the BIRDEM hospital mortuary after Namaz-e-Janaza at the South Plaza of Parliament on Thursday afternoon.
 
His family said the remains will be taken to Habiganj on Friday morning.
 
Shaheed will be buried at the family graveyard at his Chunarughat ancestral home on the same day after several funeral prayers.
 
The former minister was honoured with the Ekushey Padak, one of Bangladesh's highest civilian awards, in 2013 for his contribution during the 1971 Liberation War.
 
Shaheed served as the social welfare minister between January 2009 and November 2013 under the Awami League-led Grand Alliance Government.
 
Born on Mar 28, 1938 at Habiganj's Chunarughat Upazila, he left behind wife and two sons.
 
In 1956, he completed his Bachelor of Arts (BA) from the Brindaban Government College. He got his Bachelor of Law (LL.B) degree from the Dhaka University in 1972 and started practising law.
 
He had actively participated in the 1952 Language Movement, the movements in 1966 and 1969, and also in the 1971 Liberation war.
 
Shaheed was elected MP from the Habiganj-Chunarughat constituency in the provincial election of 1970 as well as in national elections in 1973, 1991, 1996, 2001, and 2008.
