Venezuela learns from Bangladesh

Venezuela has replicated Bangladesh’s health and education programmes that saw successes in the social sectors, its ambassador Milena Santana-Ramirez has said.

The outgoing Venezuelan Ambassador to Bangladesh, resident in New Delhi, called on Foreign Minister Abul Hassan Mahmood Ali at his office on Tuesday.

According to the foreign ministry, Santana-Ramirez praised Bangladesh’s social sector successes such as in primary education, women’s empowerment, and child and maternal health during the meeting.

She said, in many cases, Bangladesh’s successes had encouraged Venezuela to replicate the programme there.

The Foreign Minister recalled his recent meeting with Venezuelan Foreign Minister Elias Jose Jaua on the sidelines of the just-concluded NAM ministerial meeting in Algiers.

He expressed his happiness at the Venezuelan Minister’s readiness to visit Bangladesh and said that both countries could cooperate in the field of energy.

He also welcomed Venezuelan foreign direct investment in Bangladesh.

The Venezuelan Ambassador also confirmed the support of her government for Bangladesh’s candidature for the re-election of Ambassador Ismat Jahan to the Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW).

She also assured to arrange support for Bangladesh’s candidature to the Human Rights Council.
