Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s Mirpur Zone Deputy Commissioner Nisharul Arif told bdnews24.com on Monday evening that 19 policemen of an outpost under the Bhashantek Police Station had been suspended and an inspector closed to DMP headquarters.
The suspended policemen include a sub-inspector, five assistant sub-inspectors and 13 constables.
Arif said the commissioner office withdrew Bhashantek Police Station Inspector (Investigation) Golam Nabi from duty.
Asked about the reasons of the action, he said: “It’s because of negligence of duty. And there are allegations that police personnel at the outpost have good relations with criminals.”
A youth died on Thursday after he was severely beaten up by miscreants for protesting against the harassment of his cousin in Bhashantek.
A case was filed over the incident but nobody was arrested. There were allegations that police tried to cover up the incident.
