OSLO, Feb 10 (bdnews24.com/Reuters) - The Norwegian embassy in Afghanistan's capital Kabul has been temporarily closed due to a security threat, the Norwegian government said on Sunday.
"We can confirm that a threat has been made, which we are taking seriously," Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Kristin Melsom told Reuters.
Melsom said security measures had been initiated, but declined to give any more details. It was unsure for how long the embassy would stay closed, she said.
The ministry declined to comment on the details in the threat.
In January, a suicide attack claimed by the Taliban killed several people at Serena hotel in Kabul, including a Norwegian journalist. Norwegian Foreign Minister Jonas Gahr Stoere was staying at the hotel, but did not get hurt in the attack.
Sunday is a workday in Afghanistan, so the embassy would normally be open.
Norway has about 500 soldiers in Afghanistan as part of a NATO-led international force sent there after US and Afghan opposition forces ousted the Taliban government in 2001.
