Rickshaw drivers stage blockade in Badda

A group of rickshaw drivers have blocked the road in Dhaka’s Badda, on Monday morning, demanding a ban on the sale of thick-tyre battery-powered rickshaws and permission for thin-tyre battery-powered rickshaws to operate. The protest caused severe inconvenience for commuters in the route.

This autorickshaw has been put together using old engines and gas cylinders. While a normal autorickshaw can seat three people, this vehicle seats seven to eight. Although this unlicenced three-wheeler does not run on Dhaka’s main roads, the transports ply the streets from Basabo to Madartek and Nandipara while putting passengers at risk.
