Winter wear on the pavement

As winter begins to bite, demand for warm clothing has risen sharply in Dhaka. Those hoping to save a little money often turn to the footpaths, where winter wear for all ages is sold on pavements such as those in Gulistan. Both new and second-hand garments are available.

Old winter clothes on display

The winter chill has yet to hit Dhaka, but people are already making preparations. As part of these preparations, traders selling old warm clothes have put up blankets, jackets, and sweaters for sale. Traders in the Sadarghat area of Old Dhaka have set up shop with displays of old winter clothes brought in from abroad.

Blanket markets swell as cool winds settle

Although winter has yet to arrive in full force, Dhaka has felt a noticeable chill over the past few days. The cooler breeze has driven up sales of winter clothing, drawing more shoppers to the blanket market along GPO Road beside Baitul Mukarram Market.

‘Winter preparations’ under way at factories

Garments workers are busy churning out winter clothes at factories in Dhaka’s Sadarghat and Farashganj. The clothes, which come in a variety of designs and colours, are then sent all the country. Each garment costs Tk 200-Tk 650 at wholesale.
