Drying clothes occupy Alia madrasa court

The premises of the temporary court set up in the Alia madrasa field in Old Dhaka’s Bakshibazar is now a place for washermen. As the court has remained out of use for a long time, the open ground in front of it is being used by decoration companies to dry washed fabrics. A temporary court was established on the field to try the suspects after the Pilkhana massacre. The court's proceedings came to a halt after the courtroom burnt down in a fire on Jan 9.

The thin red cotton cloth known as ‘Lal Salu’ is mainly used for making quilts. It is also in high demand for shrines and other purposes.This special cloth is produced in various parts of Narsingdi district. During November-December, as the demand for quilts rises with the onset of winter, open fields and spaces in Narsingdi turn red with Salu cloth.
