BloodBridge, a digital platform linking blood donors with patients, has launched the beta version of its mobile application at Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB).
The event was part of Thalassemia Awareness Week, organised on the campus from Aug 11-14 by BloodBridge in collaboration with Bangladesh Thalassemia Samity and Hospital, Bangladesh Thalassemia Foundation, and supported by ESCO Bangladesh and A&A Global Consultants.
Founded by IUB student KM Ferdous Hasan Foysal, BloodBridge allows donors and recipients to connect through app notifications, Telegram alerts and location-based SMS.
Its full version, which is expected to launch soon, will feature live donor tracking, diagnostic support and services tailored for thalassemia patients.
“About 11.4 percent of Bangladeshis are thalassemia carriers. Each year, 6,000-8,000 children are born with the disease, with 60,000-80,000 patients nationwide,” said Foysal.
He added that his goal is to make thalassemia screening mandatory at universities and strengthen the blood donation network through student-led initiatives and technology.
The week-long campaign promoted voluntary blood donation and awareness about thalassemia.
It included free blood grouping, low-cost screening and a quiz competition.
During the blood drive, total of 72 bags of blood were collected for patients.
The quiz contest, titled “Bridge the Gap”, drew 42 university teams, taking place on Aug 13 at the IUB Multipurpose Hall.
