Dhaka, Sept 7 (bdnews24.com) – September 7, Thursday is a history in the life of Mehrab Hossain Jr..
After the announcement of his inclusion into the national cricket team that will play the ICC Champions trophy in India, a happy Mehrab said he felt his late father was watching his happy moment from the heaven.
"My father dreamt of my career in the national team, he was my inspiration," Hossain said immediately after the announcement of Bangladesh's final squad at Mirpur Indoor Cricket Complex Thursday.
Hossain's father died in April.
The selectors picked him as an opener after dropping long-serving Javed Omar. And it's expected that he would open the innings along with Shahriar Nafees in the Champions Trophy.
"I was always ready for a call from the selectors, now I have a chance to serve the nation," he said.
He was happy with that fact, too.
"It's not new for me to face a new ball," a confident Hossain said, adding he has experiences of opening against A teams of Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe.
Those teams were almost as strong as their national teams, he said.
"But I am confident of playing anywhere as per the team's requirement," he added.
Hossain first came to the limelight hammering five centuries in school tournament.
He scored 1085 runs in 20 first-class matches, including four centuries and three fifties, and 557 runs in 18 list-A class matches.
The left-handed batsman said his new position was not a permanent one, and he would have to work hard to stay on the pitch for long.
He joined the national camp Thursday after his return from Pakistan, where he led the Bangladesh A team.
