Dhaka, Oct 19 (bdnews24.com) — Wife of slain BNP leader Sanaullah Noor Babu, allegedly killed by ruling Awami League activists, has claimed that the murderers are threatening her.
Mahua Noor Kochi made the claim at a press conference at the National Press Club on Tuesday.
On October 8, Awami League and Juba League activists allegedly attacked a BNP procession at Bonpara Bazar in Baraigram, killed Babu, chairman of Baraigram Upazila under Natore and Bonpara municipal BNP president and injured several others.
Kochi blamed prime minister Sheikh Hasina for the threats and said, "The murderers are roaming around in public after the prime minister had spoken out in their favour."
Pointing to BNP, Hasina on Oct 12, in a programme to mark the founding anniversary of ruling Awami League's labour wing Sramik League, said, "They commit murders themselves and blame others."
Kochi also claimed that the police remain silent about the threats. "My three daughters and I are passing days under extreme insecurity and anxiety as the police are not taking any step against the murderers."
She said, "10 days have passed since I filed a case but the police are silent in this regard."
Kochi filed the case on Oct 9 against 27 Awami League activists involved with the gruesome murder that was carried out in public. Police have so far arrested one of them.
BNP secretary general Khandker Delwar Hossain was also present during the briefing.
Delwar said people will lose faith on the judiciary if the murderers of Babu are not brought to justice.
He also urged the prime minister to hand over the 'pro-Awami League killers' to law.
A documentary on the incident was also shown during the press conference.
On Sunday, a complaint of assault on some journalists was submitted against 14 Awami League workers with Baraigram Police Station in Natore. Shahidullah Sheikh, father of Sheikh Tofajjal Hossain, Natore correspondent of the Daily Destiny, lodged the complaint.
