Gopalganj, July 18 (bdnews24.com) – A Gopalganj court has allowed the police to take Mufti Abdul Hannan, the chief of banned Islamist outfit Harkat-ul-Jihad, into their custody for three days in a case filed against him for the bombing of a Catholic church in Baniarchar.
The police's Crime Investigation Department on Sunday applied for Hannan to be remanded for 10 days.
Judge M Saiful Alam also fixed Aug 8 as the next date for the hearing.
The five other accused - 'Kamruzzaman', Obaidur Rahman, Amir Khan, 'Shiplu' and Abu Noman alias Aman - were also present at the court but were not remanded in police custody
A bomb attack at the church in Baniarchar under Muksudpur Upazila during a weekly mass killed 10 and injured more than 50 people on June 3, 2001.
Two separate cases were filed regarding the incident in Muksudpur Police Station - for murder and use of explosives.
