Jamaat-e-Islami has condemned the exhumation and burning of the body of Nurul Haque, a fringe religious figure popularly known as “Nural Pagla”, in Rajbari’s Goalanda.
Ahsanul Mahboob Zubair, assistant secretary general and spokesman of the party, made the statement on Saturday.
“Members of the ‘Iman-Akida Preservation Committee’ exhumed and burnt the body of Nurul Haque aka ‘Nural Pagla’ – who had claimed he was the ‘Imam Mahdi’ – in Rajbari’s Goalanda,” he said. “Nurul has died. Allah will hold him accountable for everything he did in his lifetime.”
“But Islam does not allow the body to be taken out of the grave and burnt in this way. This incident violates human and religious values. We express our deep concern over this incident and strongly condemn it.”
Ahsanul said Jamaat is a party and movement based on systematic, democratic and Islamic ideals. It does not tolerate any activities that create unrest in society and the state.
Jamaat has always played a responsible role in establishing peace in the country and building a just society, he said.
“The attempt to link Jamaat-e-Islami’s name with this incident is very unfortunate, uncalled for, and unwelcome.”
The party’s assistant secretary general said, “There is a system of law and justice in the country. Taking the law into one’s own hands is not acceptable in any way. In the interest of maintaining law and order and the peace and stability of the country, law enforcers should have played a more responsible role.”
"We call on all concerned quarters to refrain from all activities that may create unrest and disorder in society and the state."
