Abdullah Al Jaber, member secretary of Inqilab Moncho, has called on fellow activists to gather at Dhaka's Shahbagh after the burial of the platform’s convenor, Sharif Osman Hadi.
Addressing mourners ahead of Hadi’s funeral prayers on Saturday at the Parliament's South Plaza, he said: “Why have we come here? We have come here to avenge our brother.”
Jaber later urged supporters not to respond to any calls for violence, saying all decisions and programmes would be announced formally by Inqilab Moncho. He called on people to assemble at Shahbagh after the funeral.
He also criticised the authorities for failing to arrest any suspects more than a week after the shooting attack that killed Hadi, demanding that Home Affairs Advisor Jahangir Alam Chowdhury and the Chief Advisor’s Special Assistant Khoda Bakhsh Chowdhury brief the public within 24 hours on what steps had been taken.

Earlier, Religious Affairs Advisor AFM Khalid Hossain addressed the gathering, calling on people to pray for Hadi.
Chief Advisor Muhammad Yunus later paid tribute to the slain activist, saying Hadi would “live on in the hearts of all Bangladeshis”.
“Dear Osman Hadi, we have not come here to say goodbye. As long as Bangladesh exists, you will remain an inseparable part of this nation.”
Hadi’s elder brother Abu Bakar Siddique, who also led the funeral prayers, spoke of Hadi's 8-month-old child and recalled conversations he had had with his brother before the child was named.

He said Hadi had sought to convey a message to the people of Bangladesh about defending the country’s independence and sovereignty.
Hadi was shot on Dec 12 while travelling by rickshaw in Dhaka's Bijoynagar area. Police said two assailants arrived on a motorcycle and fled after opening fire.
Hadi was first taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital and later transferred to Evercare Hospital, where he was treated in intensive care. He was flown to Singapore for advanced treatment but died there on Thursday.
His body was brought back to Dhaka on Friday evening. Thousands of people, including political figures, cultural personalities and members of the public, gathered along Manik Mia Avenue on Saturday to attend his funeral prayers.
