Warning of possible conspiracies at polling centres on election day, Tarique Rahman has urged party activists to remain vigilant, saying the public would not allow any attempt at vote-rigging this time.
The BNP chairman made these remarks on Tuesday at an election rally held at the Bhawal Rajbari ground in Gazipur, whilst travelling from Mymensingh back to Dhaka.
Taking the stage around midnight, he addressed the crowd: “You must head to the polling stations on the 12th. Do not just go after your morning prayers; perform your Fazr prayers in congregation right in front of your respective polling centres.
“This is to ensure that no one else can occupy those spaces in advance.”

During the rally, Tarique introduced and campaigned for several candidates: Mujibur Rahman (Gazipur-1), M Manjurul Karim Roni (Gazipur-2), SM Rafiqul Islam Bachhu (Gazipur-3), Shah Reazul Hannan (Gazipur-4), and Fazlul Haque Milon (Gazipur-5), urging the electorate to cast their votes in their favour.
He also outlined several developmental pledges for the region, including the establishment of new industrial factories, the introduction of family cards for women, and day-care centres for children within industrial zones.
His plans also featured the construction of a flyover at the Joydebpur railway crossing to ease the city’s traffic congestion, the excavation of local canals, and the provision of farmer cards.
Following the conclusion of the Gazipur rally, Tarique addressed his final meeting of the day at the Azampur Eidgah ground in Uttara at 1am.
During the session, he urged the residents to cast their ballots for the BNP Dhaka-18 candidate SM Jahangir Hossain.
He promised that, should his party return to power, they would take initiatives to eliminate Uttara’s issues with gas, water, and waterlogging, alongside establishing a government hospital and addressing traffic congestion.
Upon the conclusion of the rally at 1:20am, he departed Uttara for his residence in Gulshan.
