National Citizen Party leader Hasnat Abdullah has called his visit to Cox’s Bazar, instead of attending a state function on the anniversary of the July Uprising, a “silent protest” against the “incomplete July Proclamation”.
He offered the explanation in response to a notice sent by the NCP to five leaders for travelling to Cox’s Bazar without informing the party.
He wrote, “I like many others are saddened to see that while formulating the proclamation, the voices of the ones who were the main driving force of the uprising have been completely ignored.
“The families of the martyrs, the injured, and many of those who led the movement did not get the opportunity to express their opinions, nor did they get even the minimum respect of inclusion.”
Hasnat also criticised the “false and misleading” statements made by intelligence agencies and media outlets regarding their vacation, as well as the party’s “silent role” in response to them.
The show-cause notice issued to him was “unlawful” and “effectively encouraged false allegations and conspiracy theories”, he alleged.
