On Saturday, his photos of distributing leaflets demanding the resignations of the interim government outside the National Press Club went viral on social media, sparking widespread debate.
After a 15-year rule, the Awami League was toppled following a mass uprising on Aug 5 last year.
Since then, party chief Sheikh Hasina and many other top leaders are staying abroad. They have been named in crimes against humanity cases as well.
Party leaders remaining in the country went into hiding. The leaders along with activists have been named in dozens of cases. Chhatra League, the student wing of the party, has been ‘banned’.
Under the circumstances, a cornered Awami League recently announced to hit back the political arena and hold five programmes from Feb 1 to Feb 11. As part of their programme, the party has been distributing leaflets from Feb 1 to Feb 5.
Chief Advisor's Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam said at a press briefing: “The accomplices of the fallen autocrats are planning to do a lot of things. They want to distribute leaflets.”
He warned that anyone distributing Awami League leaflets would be arrested.
The press secretary clarified that the leaflets contain content that could disrupt law and order. So distributing them will lead to arrest. This is a strict directive from the government, he said.
