Children playing around in field with 'restricted access'

A sign at Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University in Dhaka reads “Research Field” with a red warning underneath: “Entrance Restricted”. Yet, every day, children and teenagers gather there to play cricket and football, running around until evening. With open spaces disappearing amid countless buildings, the field has become their favourite playground.

The old trade fair ground in Dhaka is mainly the research field of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University. Although public entry is meant to be restricted, every afternoon, people of all ages flock there for sports and exercise. Photo: Mahmud Zaman Ovi
