Muslims flock to Tongi on first phase of Ijtema

The first phase of the Bishwa Ijtema, the second-largest congregation of Muslims after Hajj, began on Friday on the banks of the Turag River in Tongi. Following tradition, the proceedings of the three-day phase started with a sermon after Fajr prayers in the early hours.
