Jaywalking is seriously unsafe, so what?

Signposts on top of the road dividers in Dhaka’s Mohakhali advises pedestrians to use the footbridge located nearby, but as the photographs show, the people these messages are aimed at seldom pay heed to it. Many jaywalkers in the area attempt to cross the street by vaulting over the dividers or sneaking through between the cracks on Sunday, Oct 23, 2022.

The authorities have deliberately made the road dividers in Mohakhali higher than usual with iron grids on top to prevent jaywalkers from crossing the roads unsafely. But that does not stop them from taking risks as the photograph taken on Sunday, Oct 23, 2022 shows. Photo: Mahmud Zaman Ovi
