Another patient has died of dengue fever while 406 new individuals have been hospitalised with the Aedes mosquito-borne disease across Bangladesh over the past 24 hours.
The number of patients hospitalised with the disease this year rose to 13,594, while the tally of deaths climbed to 52.
The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said as many as 89 new patients were hospitalised in the Dhaka city until Wednesday.
In addition, 64 were hospitalised in the Dhaka Division, four in Myemensingh, 78 in the Chattogram, 35 in Khulna, 31 in the Rajshahi, five in Rangpur, 98 in Barishal, and two in Sylhet.
As many as 1,317 patients are currently undergoing treatment for dengue in hospitals across the country.
Of them, 374 were hospitalised in the capital with 943 across the rest of the country.
In the first nine days of July, 3,298 people have been admitted with the disease and 10 have died.
June saw 5,951 hospitalisations and 19 fatalities, followed by 1,773 cases and three deaths in May.
Earlier, 701 cases and seven deaths were recorded in April, 336 hospitalisations with no fatalities in March, 374 cases and three deaths in February, and 1,161 cases with 10 deaths in January.
In 2024, a total of 101,214 patients were hospitalised due to dengue nationwide, with 575 fatalities reported.
This marks the third-highest number of hospitalisations due to dengue in the country’s history, while the death toll ranks as the second-highest.
The DGHS has been keeping records of dengue hospitalisations and fatalities since 2000.
Since then, a record 321,179 dengue hospitalisations were logged in 2023. That year also saw the most deaths with 1,705.
