Ailing singer Abdul Jabbar shows signs of improvement, says wife

The condition of ailing singer Abdul Jabbar has slightly improved, his wife Halima Jabbar has said.

The singer, who played a key role with his songs in keeping up the spirits of Bengalees during the 1971 Liberation War, is admitted at the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University or BSMMU in Dhaka.

His condition deteriorated on Saturday afternoon. His relatives flocked to the hospital then. 

The 79-year-old regained senses on Sunday morning after remaining unconscious for two days, Halima told bdnews24.com. "But we cannot say he is out of danger.”

The singer suffered a major kidney failure in August. He has been undergoing treatment at BSMMU for around four months now.

"There is one organ failure after another," BSMMU Professor Debabrata Banik told bdnews24.com on Saturday.

'Salam Salam', 'Ore Nil Doriya', 'Joy Bangla, Banglar Joy' and 'Tumi Ki Dekhechho Kobhu' are among the best of his songs. He made the music lovers emotional when, at the early stage of his illness, said that "he wants to live on this beautiful earth for a few more years."

The Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendra artiste has received the highest civilian award, Swadhinata Padak and Ekushey Padak, among other national and international awards.
