The Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) has again increased the prices of private Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) and autogas in April, citing the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, the Strait of Hormuz crisis, the disruption of shipping, and increased import costs.
The price of the most commonly purchased amount – the 12kg cylinder - has been fixed at Tk 1,940. The adjusted rates will take effect at 6pm on Sunday.
BERC said in a notification that the new consumer price of private LPG has been fixed at Tk 161.66 per kg. At the same time, the price of autogas has been raised to Tk 89.50 per litre.
At the start of April, LPG prices were adjusted taking into account the Contract Price (CP), shipping fare and trader's premium announced by Saudi Aramco. At that time, the freight cost and trader premium was set at $120 per metric tonne.
The BERC said, "This adjustment has been made to maintain the normal supply of LPG due to the crisis surrounding the Strait of Hormuz in the Middle East, the cessation of LPG shipping in the Middle East, the increase in time and fuel costs in importing LPG from alternative sources, and the increase in insurance and security costs."
For these reasons, the freight and trader premium charge for imports has been increased to $250 per tonne to maintain the normal supply of LPG, the notice said.
The commission said that, on Apr 2, Saudi Aramco announced Saudi CP for propane and butane at $750 and $800 per metric tonne, respectively. The average Saudi CP, based on the 35:65 ratio of propane and butane, stands at $782.50.
According to the new price schedule, a 5.5kg cylinder will now sell for Tk 889, a 12.5 kg cylinder for Tk 2,210, a 15kg cylinder for Tk 2,425, a 16kg cylinder for Tk 2,587, a 18kg cylinder for Tk 2,910, a 20 kg cylinder for Tk 3,233, a 22kg cylinder for Tk 3,557, a 25kg cylinder for Tk 4,042, a 30kg cylinder for Tk 4,850, a 33kg cylinder at Tk 5,335, a 35kg cylinder at Tk 5,658, and a 45kg cylinder at Tk 7,275.
BERC has fixed the consumer price of private LPG supplied in liquid form through the reticulated system at Tk 157.91 per kg. The price of LPG supplied in gaseous form has been fixed at Tk 0.351 per litre, or Tk 351 per cubic metre.
Despite the increase in private sector prices, the price of government LPG has been kept unchanged. According to the order issued on Feb 23, 2026, the price of a 12.50kg cylinder of government LPG at the dealer or retailer point will remain at Tk 776.93 at the consumer level.
BERC said that LPG storage and bottling licensees will sell LPG to distributors at the prescribed price after bottling and must issue VAT invoices or delivery orders accordingly.
The commission also said, “At no stage (whether LPG storage and bottling, distribution, or retail sale to consumers) can LPG or autogas be sold at a price higher than the rate fixed by the commission.”
The new prices will remain effective until further instructions, BERC said.
